WHAT?
YOGA PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AT RIVER ROCK YOGA
WHY?
Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, yoga enhances flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, concentration, calmness and relaxation improve. Studies show increased ability to focus in the classroom resulting in higher grades and improved behavior at school. Yoga compliments all sports programs and dance classes. Doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and develop an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that marvelous inner light that all children have to the surface.
River Rock children's classes are taught by Moira Anderson Miller and Kim Bowman. Both Moira & Kim are experienced yoga teachers certified specifically in Children’s Yoga through the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, NC. Moira is a certified elementary school teacher.
We provide structured, exploration of yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques combined with lots of fun! We inspire children with music, games, poetry, story-tellling and art. Children are encouraged to open to their inherent loving & peaceful natures.
CLASSES
Mommy & Me
Bond with your busy toddler, as you partner with them to help build social skills, better regulate emotions and encourage their creative spirit. Playful techniques teach toddlers yoga poses. Children will stand, sit up, walk and jump. This is a wonderful way to spend time with your child and learn some yoga!
3-5 year Olds
Preschoolers are guided on a yoga journey through narrative stories, games, art and music. While building their social skills, in this energy releasing class, they will bark in downward dog, fly like a butterfly and roar like a lion. Imaginative games using their breath teach them to relax and be still to create a peaceful, calm, focused and happy mind.
6-9 year Olds
Yoga comes to life while encouraging your child’s creative spirit. This class combines simple yoga poses with engaging music and stories that exercise social, sensory and motor skills while increasing flexibility. Self respect and respect for others are a constant theme in this group-based class. Kids leave class feeling empowered by the strength of their body and mind.
Tween Yoga
Yoga is great for building a child’s foundation for a healthy and fit lifestyle. More physically challenging and flowing sequences will help build strength and flexibility and promote self confidence, awareness and control. Students find that their yoga practice compliments other areas of their lives including academics, sports and creative endeavors.
Teen Yoga
Strengthen body, mind and spirit through yoga poses, breathing exercises and relaxation techniques. Students develop skills that they will carry beyond our class into their daily lives. Preventing sports injuries, controlling reactions to situations, positive self-awareness, lengthening attention span and better sleep are some benefits that students obtain from this class.
